Athletes with Down syndrome to compete in global games in Turkey

This spring, athletes with Down syndrome from around the globe will have the opportunity to compete in the Trisome Games, held in Turkey.

The games will be hosted in Antalya, a Mediterranean city, from March 31 to April 7, 2020. 1,000 athletes from 37 countries are expected to compete in a variety of sports – including basketball, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, futsal, judo, and table tennis.

This will be the second hosting of the Trisome Games, which were first held in Italy in 2016. Participating in sports can be more difficult for individuals with Down syndrome due to physiological restrictions. Dubbed the “Olympic Games for the athletes with Down syndrome,” the Trisome Games provide a space to celebrate the athletic abilities of individuals with Down syndrome, and encourage them to participate in sports.

More information on the games can be found on the event website.
