Facts About Down Syndrome for the Expectant Mother

This resource was created by Emily Mondschein of 21connect.org. Emily Mondschein is the Vice President of a not-for- profit organization in Western New York that advocates and supports individuals with Down syndrome. She is passionate about ensuring that individuals with Down syndrome are provided access to both the general education classroom and the workforce, no longer segregated away from society. During her pregnancy Emily learned that her son would be born with Down syndrome. After facing out dated biases and negativity from the medical community, Emily vowed she would devote her life to sharing and educating others about the promises and potentials individuals with Down syndrome posess. These lives are meant to be celebrated and embraced, not mourned over and grieved. She is eternally grateful for the beautiful life she has been given.
